Help needed Debunking the Myths
Mar 7 2009, 9:03 PM EST
Hi all,The next section of 'Debunking the Myths' is going to be on attendance. For some reason everyone in our league seems convinced that Team Bath publishes misleading attendance figures. Well, it's time to lay this myth to rest. What I would like to do is get someone to photograph all of the various seating areas at Twerton Park during a Team Bath game. This would not give us a definitive answer (it would not include people using the toilet, for example) but it would give us a good idea. The number of visible people could be compared to the announced attendance. I would do this myself, but I do not have a good enough camera. Since there are only two declared Team Bath supporters on this forum, it seems likely we will need the help of a non-Team Bath fan (unless you can step up TBReg). If there is a non-TB fan, be he a City fan or from some other club, whatever assistance they could provide would be welcome. As long as the photographs provided to indeed cover the whole of the seating areas, the results would be published on this site. If it turned out that the published figures were inaccurate, it would be shown. This site is pro-Team Bath, but it is pro-truth as well. That is a promise. The next home game is the Tuesday 17th game against Weston-super-Mare. Can anyone help, please? 0 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

Sorry, can't help. How about some photo's of the terracing areas (Bath End/Bristol End/Pop Side), surely this is where most fans congregate?

TB thrives on lies, obviously. The FACT is that the declared gate is always just over 100, to make it look not QUITE so bad. The FACT is that at the home game to Eastleigh in November, the declared gate was 107 (I think, that is the usual made-up announced figure). the gate person reported that only 28 people had paid, and virtually all of them came from Eastleigh. If you do count the gate v Weston, do not include players from your 50-man squad, freebie family members etc. We are talking about people who actually WANT to watch Tax, not those who HAVE to. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. properBathteamfan, you obviously are not reading what I'm writing carefully. First of all, please stop confusing this website with TB management. If there is any lying it is not 'us.' What I am proposing is we settle this once and for all. If someone will take pictures of the entire ground Tuesday night I will post them here. We can count how many are in the stands and compare the official attendance. I can't lie about it if the pictures are there for all to see. I don't want to lie about it anyway. If the attendance is wrong I don't mind showing it, and if it is right you'll have to admit it then. Are you all afraid or something? 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

It wouldn't be settled once and for all. The Eastleigh game was a good example of a 'fixed' gate, and the gateman confirmed it, but apparently the Hampton game was about right. On other occasions, people who have been there have actually counted the gate (it doesn't take long) and it is usually around 60 (including the non-playing members of the 40-strong squad, parents, WAGS, etc, none of whom pay) and then the gate is declared as over 100. This site has gone mercifully quiet recently, and you would really do better to keep it that way, as you are making yourself look very silly.

"This site has gone mercifully quiet recently"Hardly surprising that the site is quiet, there are still only TWO TB members on here!!! Which kinda backs up your arguement re: attendance. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

One of those Tax 'fans' has posted just 3 times, the last on 24 Feb. So we're basically down to ONE. This hardly debunks the myth, but confirms the truth.

8. crowd v Weston
Mar 17 2009, 6:41 PM EDT
Weston brought probably about 25. I counted in the first half: Bristol end 12, pop side 6, Bath end 6, enclosure 24, stand 25. this is obviously not counting a couple fo proper bath team officials, and anything in a blue and yellow tracksuit. Total = 73. Crowd announced as over 100. Proved.

By the way, I paid to get in, but not via the turnstile. I have already paid my tax.

properBathteamfan, I've posted this on the BSQS forum as well, but although I appreciate and do not necessarily doubt your account, I need something a bit more substantial. Any chance you can get some photographs? I will post them.

"That is not to say that all Team Bath FC players are students, but there is no outside requirement that this be the case any more than there is a requirement that all Bath City players be 'Romans."What a load of twaddle. How can a requirement to be a student to play for a university team be the same as a city player requiring to be a roman!? Romans is not even our nickname! I appreciate you trying to "debunk" the myths- as long as you do it properly and not by writing rubbish like that 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I was just trying to point out that although Team Bath are often referred to as the 'Students' or the 'Scholars' in the press this is not create a binding rule that all players must therefore be actual students.

Except for"Team Bath FC is no ordinary football club. It is a fully-fledged football club within the environment of the University of Bath" That would imply that the players might be students? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Well, no. There are a lot of people in the environment of the University of Bath that are not students. Lecturers, technicians, staff, etc.

My Victor counted the crowd and assures me it was less than half what was announced...mind you he would say that....he's never liked Ged since he began to suspect that I liked him rather a lot.I love supporting those young fresh faced students...it must be so hard for them living away from home without their mums to cook and clean for them.
